What is Cognitve Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a term used to identify a collection of therapeutic techniques and strategies developed to address psychological distress and improve quality of life. CBT was originally developed for depression but has since been shown to be effective for a range of anxiety disorders, perfectionism, stress, sleep disodrers, and many other common psychological diffiuclties.The underlying premis is that there is a connection between your thoughts, feelings, physical symptoms and behaviour. Therefore by making a change in how we experience one of these areas it will have a positive impact on your overall wellbeing.
Traditional CBT aims to challenge unhelpful thinking, which can have great results. More recent CBT therapy (ACT and Mindfulness) suggest that some thoughts can not be challenged and instead aim to help people to gain greater space from the constant thoights that cloud their mind.
